1. A BRAND TO FOLLOW: Shopify says no to meetings. ?

@Shopify tells its employees to just say no to meetings.
As per the survey by Steven Rogelberg, Otter.ai, unnecessary meetings are a $100 million mistake at big companies.

What is interesting about the Shopify approach?
?the company is canceling all recurring meetings with more than 2 people, encouraging employees to decline invitations and detach from big internal chat groups;
?it is also reupping a rule that no meetings can be held on Wednesdays;
?a bot serves as the policy’s enforcer, reminding organizers of the new rules effectively from 05 January 2023.

Has your company instituted a similar policy or no-meeting days?

3. HR TRENDS 2023 TO NAVIGATE. ?

In view of the big challenges we’re facing today across our society, it’s time for HR to break the boundaries!

The HR Trend Institute encourages HR professionals to lead by example & be the voice for people and shares 9 HR Trends 2023. Some include:

1. Supporting people in response to the cost-of-living crisis. Bring the cost-of-living crisis to the attention of executives and explore methods to help those most in need.
2. Knowledge workers no longer becoming the centre of the Universe. Build personas that represent this workforce, observe their needs, motivations, preferences and capabilities.
3. VR making the metaverse a workplace reality. Research how it can enhance employee experience (for example, onboarding).
4. Building a TIA. Talent teams are now a crucial source of intelligence & people data that feeds directly into strategic workforce planning and modern talent strategies.
5. Going net-zero & ESG. Build a purpose-driven EVP linked to net-zero, incorporate ESG criteria into governance committees, such as risk or remuneration.

5.A STRATEGY TO ADOPT: Preventing career cushioning. ?‍♂️

The job market is weakening and career cushioning is sweeping the workplace. How to prevent such a scenario?

Huggg lists some strategies to retain employees during a recession. Beyond paying people correctly, these actions include:

1. Making employees feel secure. Give regular updates & let people know how business is going. If you’re able to, reassure them that there are no plans for layoffs and remain focused on recovery & growth.
2. Celebrating successes. Recognizing wins is vitally important during tough times.
3. Offering great benefits. Offer employees desirable benefits such as private health care, income protection insurance, etc.
4. Provide training & development opportunities. Upskilling will help employees feel more secure and less likely to look for other employment.
5. Improving communication. If people feel genuinely cared, they’ll have far higher loyalty to the company.
