1. A BRAND TO FOLLOW: LinkedIn champions an out-of-office policy. ?

Twice a year @LinkedIn, US gives their employees an entire week off and it doesn’t count towards their PTO. As an employer, it cares about the employees, giving them a chance to disconnect and recharge.

WHY TO DO THIS?

? having time off gives employees an opportunity to recharge and prevent burnout, strike a balance between the professional and personal;

?it results in reduced levels of unscheduled absenteeism;

? it enhances productivity and retains employees which is more financially advisable than tackling high turnover rates;

? it is a great chance to show employees gratitude for their extraordinary work at LinkedIn.

2. ACTIVATIONS TO FOLLOW: Hybrid work at Booking.com. ?

@Booking.com believes in experimentation and collaborative problem solving. The company is now trying to find the best ways of working for its employees and is partnering with NeuroPower to run a hybrid work pilot.

What is wonderful about the ‘Hybrid Way of Working’ pilot?

? Booking.com offers a working-from-abroad solution. The guidelines allow for 20 days of working in a home country and any country where employees have the right to work.

?There is no requirement on how many days employees should spend in the office. They may work from home, while encouraged to use the office space to innovate & collaborate face-to-face.

? Partial days can be spent in the office (coming in for a half day working session).

? Core working hrs are between 10 am and 4 pm (exceptions to be discussed with a manager/HR).

3. AN APPROACH TO FOLLOW: Measuring thriving, not engagement. ?

It is time to rethink our approach to employee engagement. A study by Gartner, revealed that while companies have invested resources to modernize the traditional EVP, employee engagement has remained flat since 2016.

HBR shares the approach of @Microsoft where they moved from measuring employee engagement to measuring employee thriving. Thriving is defined as ‘being energized and empowered to do meaningful work.’ The key aspects of the approach include:

1. Applying the ‘5Ps of employee fulfillment’ model. It breaks down employee fulfillment into 5 key, successive components: pay, perks, people, pride and purpose.

2. Fostering a great work culture. Thriving employees talk about a collaborative environment, teamwork, an inclusive culture with autonomy & flexibility and well-being support.

3. Distinguishing thriving from work-life balance. While thriving means being energized and empowered to do meaningful work, work-life balance reflects employees’ personal lives.

Explore the aspects of measuring employee thriving here. Why not to apply this approach at your company and unlock thriving across different work locations, professions and ways of working?

4.A FRAMEWORK TO APPLY: How to live and celebrate your employer brand? ?

Why employer branding is so important? – It is the business identity of your company.

Raz Mitzna, Attract & Retain shares an interesting framework to improve employer brand experience and company reputation. It includes:

1. Identifying who you are as an employer. First, it is vitally important to figure out how your company is perceived as an employer and how you wish your company to be perceived.

2. Walking the talk. As an employer, make sure you live up to your workplace policies and promises on daily basis.

3. Celebrating employer brand. Celebrate occasions, recognize your employees and have fun at work to increase employees’ morale & productivity, promote collaboration and enhance loyalty.
