1. A BRAND TO FOLLOW:China retail tycoon introduces ‘unhappy leave’.

 

The Chinese supermarket chain @Pang Dong Lai offers up to 10 days of ‘unhappy leave’ annually to improve the company morale and help its employees achieve a better work-life balance.

What other company employment policies & perks are worth mentioning?

The employees work only 7 hours a day, have weekends off; they are entitled to 30 to 40 days annual leave and 5 days off during Lunar New Year.

The company offers over 100 free services, incl. free blood pressure measurements, air conditioning cleaning & handbag maintenance.

The supermarket is also equipped with pet cabinets, pet water & cooling devices.

@PwC launched an AI-powered talent marketplace ‘My Marketplace’ to help recruit internal talent for open roles and projects. The recruiters, hiring managers, and project leads can use the platform to identify internal talent before expanding their search externally.

How does PwC’s internal talent marketplace work?

The platform pulls data from the internal records, résumés & publicly available sources to create employee profiles. Then, it uses generative AI to match employee profiles with prospective projects & jobs.

The employees can edit their profiles & express their interest in roles they’ve not been matched with.

@Microsoft and @LinkedIn have issued the 2024 Work Trend Index Annual Report, which offers a look into how AI will reshape work & the labor market. The key findings include:

1. Employees want AI at work—and they won’t wait for companies to catch up. 75% of knowledge workers use AI at work today, and 46% of users started using it less than 6 months ago. Usage nearly doubled in the last 6 months.

2. For employees, AI raises the bar & breaks the career ceiling. 66% of leaders say they wouldn’t hire someone without AI skills while 77% of leaders say, with AI early-in-career talent will be given greater responsibilities.

3. The rise of the AI power user. AI power users are 53% more likely to receive encouragement from leadership to consider how AI can transform their function, and 18% more likely to say their company encourages innovation.
